Qur'an Bible Comparison Suras 3 - 9

3 He has revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, even as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel.

If Muhammad was inspired, then what he wrote has to agree with what came before it. This was the way prophets of old were seen to be as true or false - did their message agree with what was written before it? Especially did it agree with the 5 books that Moses wrote (called Pentateuch or Torah by some)? Many of the apocryphal books do not agree at some point, so have mostly been rejected as not inspired. Does what Muhammad wrote agree with the Bible?

97 And pilgrimage to the House is a duty unto Allah for mankind, for him who can find a way thither.

This was covered in sura 2:125. If this is really a duty imposed by God, we all need to be making our plane reservations for next year.

Sura 4:3 And if you fear that you will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women, who seem good to you, two or three or four;

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Matthew 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
Titus 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

It's pretty clear what God's plan is - one man & one woman (not man&man or woman&woman either!) This brings up a thread that is consistent in the Qur'an - it is just the kind of place Hugh Hefner would have dreamed up! (at least on the sexual pleasures angle).

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

The Bible does seem to teach eternal torment in places, but when read thoroughly, it is seen that it is a FINAL fire, one completely erasing sin and its effects forever. Then there will be a new heavens and new earth. If God is planning to get his jollies by roasting us like flaming marshmallows and putting new skins on us when we get "down to the bone", then we definitely wouldn't want to be anywhere near him in heaven if we were saved anyway. Isn't this pretty clear to everyone???

89 They long that you should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that you may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever you find them,

Matthew 5:43-44 You have heard that it has been said, you shall love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Why is it hard to make friends with Muslims? One reason is because "Allah" tells them not to! This ayat (verse) also shows clearly why it is SO difficult to convert a Muslim to the true God - because when they turn their back on Allah, there are over 1,000,000,000 people who have been instructed to kill them!!! God, please send your angels to especially guard the Muslim convert to your dear son - Jesus Christ.

92 And whoso has not the wherewithal must fast two consecutive months. A penance from Allah.

Matthew 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

If you have money you can get in good with Allah, but if not, you have to do penance. Islam is sounding more and more like a bad concotion of Catholicism and formalistic Judaism.

103 Worship at fixed times has been enjoined on the believers.

Matthew 6:6 But you, when you prayest, enter into thy closet, and when you have shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which sees in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

As Islam only recognizes Arabic as the "pure" language, most Muslims in the world, such as in the most populous country - Indonesia, have very little idea what they are chanting.
All Christians know that God is not concerned with a specific time or position or language to pray - we can pray standing or driving or eating or whatever - We serve a big God:)

157 And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger - they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain.
158 But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise.

Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
Mark 15:37, Luke 23:46, John 19:30.
Romans 5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Why does Muhammad spend so much time building up Jesus, then cutting down the central event in his life? "Yield up the ghost" means to die. That Jesus Christ died on the cross is central to Christianity. What did all the sacrificed animals mean in the Judaic system anyway? Was God just having fun killing animals? Wasn't that whole system pointing to a slain Saviour? Wasn't he the passover?
Also, if the Jews did not kill Christ, then why weren't the guards in charge of carrying out Pilate's command punished? If he didn't die on the cross, the disciples wouldn't have been so sad, his resurrection story would be all fabricated etc. etc. Christianity would not be Christian.

171 O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One God. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
1John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father.

Allah denies that Jesus is his son. Muhammad denies that Jesus is the Christ. Is this the antichrist? The Bible says yes.
I will continue to "exaggerate" the name of (only!) Jesus Christ above all names in the world!

Sura 5:6 O you who believe! When you rise up for prayer, wash you faces, and your hands up to the elbows, and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. And if you are unclean, purify yourselves. And if you are sick or on a journey, or one of you comes from the closet, or you have had contact with women, and you find not water, then go to clean, high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it.

Mark 7:4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

If Allah is the same god as the God of the Bible, then all Jews and Christians have been praying the wrong way all these millenia!

46 And We caused Jesus, son of Mary, to follow in their footsteps, confirming that which was (revealed) before him in the Torah, and We bestowed on him the Gospel wherein is guidance and a light, confirming that which was (revealed) before it in the Torah - a guidance and an admonition unto those who ward off (evil).

John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.

Jesus IS the light, IS the bread because he IS GOD. It sure wasn't "bestowed" on him by two angels.

51 O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who takes them for friends is (one) of them.

John 15:14 You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.

If we do what Jesus commands, like keep his 10 Commandments, we will all be friends. See sura 4:89.

60 (Worse is the case of him) whom Allah has cursed, him on whom His wrath has fallen and of whose sort Allah has turned some to apes and swine, and who serves idols.

Maybe it means that Allah let humans follow their perversions and worship animals, and doesn't mean literally that Allah turned some humans to animals, but that seems to be what it is saying here...

72 They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. The Messiah (himself) said: O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! whoso ascribes partners unto Allah, for him Allah has forbidden paradise.

John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

The wise men and angels worshipped Jesus at his birth (Matthew 2:2, Hebrews 1:6), were they unbelievers?

73 They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the third of three; when there is no God save the One God.

Matthew 28:19 Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The anti-trinitarian crowd has become a bit vocal in Christian circles too recently...

75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how We make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Ephesians 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

Was our Saviour "no other than a messenger" or "far above every...name"?
It is interesting how Mary is venerated in the Qur'an. Perhaps Mary will be how Babylon - the great end-time conglomeration of all religions - will find "common ground"? This story gives credence to that idea: A Mary for All (Economist mag.)

82 you will find the most vehement of mankind in hostility to those who believe (to be) the Jews and the idolaters. And you will find the nearest of them in affection to those who believe (to be) those who say: Lo! We are Christians. That is because there are among them priests and monks, and because they are not proud.

Acts 7:51 You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you.

Well, looks like Muhammad got this one right. Part of the reason may be tho, that Christians are more likely to compromise than stand for the truth.

97 Allah has appointed the Ka'bah, the Sacred House, a standard for mankind, and the Sacred Month and the offerings and the garlands.

Remember, if Allah is really God, then we all have to run around the house.

116 And when Allah said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst you say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah ? he said: Be glorified! It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then you knewest it. you knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy Mind. Lo! you, only you, are the Knower of Things Hidden ?

John 14:10 Believest you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.

Of course Jesus didn't say that Mary was God. There is one religion pushing this concept tho...

Sura 6:38 There is not an animal in the earth, nor a flying creature flying on two wings, but they are peoples like unto you. We have neglected nothing in the Book (of Our decrees). Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

Animals are on the same plane as humans? Then why does Allah allow eating of animals? I hear this from Buddhists all the time: "All life is the same". Like when was the last time you called the police when a bug splatted your windshield?

101 The Originator of the heavens and the earth! How can He have a child, when there is for Him no consort, when He created all things and is Aware of all things?

1John 5:10 He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son.
Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

What a small concept of God to think he had to have a woman partner to have Jesus!! All things were made by Jesus according to the Bible.

Sura 7:44 And the dwellers of the Garden cry unto the dwellers of the Fire: We have found that which our Lord promised us (to be) the Truth. Have you (too) found that which your Lord promised the Truth ? They say: Yea, verily.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

There is no communication between the lost and saved in eternity, and yes, I know about Luke 16, but it is obviously a parable.

157 Those who follow the messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, whom they will find described in the Torah and the Gospel (which are) with them. He will enjoin on them that which is right and forbid them that which is wrong. He will make lawful for them all good things and prohibit for them only the foul; and he will relieve them of their burden and the fetters that they used to wear. Then those who believe in him, and honour him, and help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him: they are the successful.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

YES! Muhammad, you mostly got this right except the part about reading and writing, but you applied it to the wrong person - it isn't yourself - it's Jesus Christ!

Sura 8:15 O you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them.
16 Whoso on that day turns his back to them, unless manoeuvring for battle or intent to join a company, he truly has incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's end.

Revelation 13:10 He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: he that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Religion of peace? Perhaps this ayat is what the mujahideen have in their minds when taking up a weapon?

39 And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that you shouldest take them out of the world, but that you shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Religion of piece(s)? Somehow this ayat stands out and speaks clearest to me about what Islam is all about. Fight until religion is all for Allah. Do Christians want to serve this "god"?

Sura 9:5 Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

Kill them all.
This is making me sick:(

29 Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah has forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.
30 And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fights against them. How perverse are they!
31 They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One God. There is no God save Him. Be He Glorified from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!

Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
Matthew 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that you tell us whether you be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus said unto him, you have said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jews say Ezra is the son of Allah?, and the Christians say the same about the Messiah? If so, i'd really pity these two having such a warlusting father! No, Jesus' father is not Allah, it is GOD.

111 Lo! Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs: they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Allah says to fight your enemies, Jesus says to be fought on by your enemies. The battle lines are drawn...clearly.

114 The prayer of Abraham for the forgiveness of his father was only because of a promise he had promised him, but when it had become clear unto him that he (his father) was an enemy to Allah he (Abraham) disowned him.

Does this mean he broke the 5th commandment to "Honor your father and mother..."? This is speculation on Muhammad's part.

123 O you who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).

1 Thessalonians 3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

Who would you rather have as a next door neighbor in heaven all your life in heaven - one who followed Allah in this life, or one who followed Jesus Christ?
